We’ve made a few changes this year and I’d like to take a couple of minutes to go over them…

First and foremost, we are making this a one day event this year.  In the past we had done BarCamp Seattle as a two day, but Sunday attendance was always light.  So to simplify things and distill the goodness that is BarCamp down to a highly concentrated shot of brain-food we’re limiting it to one day.  If you show up Sunday you may be disappointed.

Second, we’ve made the decision to hold a $5 per person refundable deposit to guarantee that everyone who wants to participate gets a chance.  If you show up we refund your deposit.

A little background on this… We have, in the past, reached capacity in the venue and had to turn folks away.  How can this be, you ask?  After all, you saw some empty chairs.

Well, some folks signed up on the website and then didn’t show up on the day of the conference.  Now, this forces us into a difficult position; Either honor those signups and turn away folks even though we have open seats, or risk hitting capacity and having to turn away someone who had a confirmed slot.

So $5 to hold your seat seems like a good compromise.  The deposit is refunded to you when you check in at the event (or you can donate it to BarCamp Seattle to help with expenses and bootstrap next year’s event).
